2022 Fall Muster Side Trips Thread

Somehow, some way, I plan to be in either Columbia or Spring Hill by 8 or 9am. It may be earlier than 8am if it's Columbia and anyone wants to go to Sam Watkins' gravesite at Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery too.
I'll probably just go by Columbia on my way home on Monday as I don't do zero dark thirty anymore.

Nothing is carved in stone. I'm just tossing some ideas out there. We don't have to caravan either. Folks that want to leave early and hit other places before the SCV Museum opens at 9am can do so. I suspect that if we tour as a group on Thursday, there will be at least 3-4 vehicles involved and maybe more

I wouldn't donate the time of day to those clowns. What gives them the right to say what you can or can't have or do?
We'll have to talk it over at the muster when not on tour. Tom's reaction is still priceless though! He went full sailor in his reactions, still does when brought up.

Mine was to go and buy a "GA Armory" marked musket the clown has been eyeballing for donation, plus handling and examining a CS jacket that they wanted. I was told to be sure and pay my dues and not let the numerous situations deter me though!

If you and Tom are coming you NEED to get registered by RSVP at the link below as well as booking rooms as I have to give back what is not booked on Sept 13th plus we need box lunch orders and other info as well as head count for caterer, names tag etc.

State a time and meeting place and I will be there to do those places. I'll be in town Wednesday late afternoon so I'll be ready for Thursday's touring. These are all places I have not seen on previous visits so I am excited to see them.

We normally run everything from the War Room at the Hampton Inn. I will have it open starting on Wed. The hotel is putting coffee, tea and water in there for us and that's where we gather for the complimentary breakfast and I'm talking full breakfast before we start the day.

Ok if that's where we are meeting for the Thursday morning side trip just let us know a time. Since I'm not staying there I usually pick up something to eat on the way over before the day's activities.

I don't plan side trips but most all folks are staying at the Hampton Inn. Just come over and you can have breakfast there as you are part of the group.

Oh, stop worrying the deed is done. Had to wait on Tom to return to Texas.

I'm not worrying as just wanted to let you know about the cut off date as the hotel rate goes to $209. There, is just saved you and Tom $200. You do know we have things to deal with. Now I know we can setup a recreation of a CS soldier crossing the Stones River.:D Looking forward to seeing you and Tom.

Just had a nice chat with my road dog @Rick Featherston. I ran by him what I think is a highly doable itinerary for Thursday. I had asked him a couple of times over the last few months to be thinking about what he wanted to do on side trips. He more or less left it up to me. We're rolling out very early from his house in Tyler on Wednesday morning and stopping at Parker's Crossroads on the way.

Here's what we talked about for Thursday. Roll out from the Hampton Inn in Murfeesboro about 7am.

1. Sam Watkins' gravesite at Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Columbia. There are other Confederate veterans buried there too.
2. SCV Museum in Columbia. It opens at 9am.
3. Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia
4. Spring Hill Cemetery
5. Spring Hill Battlefield
6. Rippavilla house in Spring Hill.

There might be time to squeeze in a visit at Saint John's Episcopal Church and Graveyard in Columbia if anyone hasn't been and wants to go.

We are leaning towards going to Franklin on Friday morning and at a minimum going to Fort Granger, Rest Haven Cemetery and the City Cemetery. We might go to the Visitor Center at the Carter house.

I like what I see. I would like to join in on thursday. Will talk to you wednesday nite.

How far is the Forrest Boyhood Home from all this?
Chapel Hill, TN. About 45 minutes southwest of Murfreesboro and about 12 miles east of Columbia. That's another thought for Thursday or Friday morning. There's so many things to do within less than an hour from our CWT HQ in Murfreesboro.
