2022 Fall Muster Side Trips Thread

I was at Donelson in the Fall of 2020. The museum was cordoned off for construction (not that anyone could go in due to COVID anyways had it been open). I would certainly think it would be done and open by now.

Hartsville isn't a widely known engagement but it led to John Hunt Morgan's promotion to brigadier general. A few original structures remain along with a cemetery that features graves as result of the battle. There are also various monuments and markers around the area. Here is a list: https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=180263
i was at Fort Donelson end of July. The VC was still under construction, but they do have a temp trailer set up acting as a VC. Only a couple of items on display, and nice little gift shop, and film. Due to tornado's tearing down trees, it is pretty much impossible to get down to Fort Henry.

I definitely plan to visit the SCV Museum, NBF's gravesite and Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia on Thursday. I have been to all 3 but I want to go again. There are other things to do there and I have already done them. Not sure what others want to do.

I also want to and plan to go to Spring Hill. I have been there 3 times already but I love it there. I did the house tour of Rippavilla on the battle anniversary last year. There are a lot of tour options through the BOFT:

For anyone who hasn't been to Spring Hill and wants to do a Rippavilla tour, I don't think there is enough time to do that on Friday morning and be back in Murfreesboro in time for the Muster kickoff.

With an early start, Columbia and Spring Hill on Thursday is doable. For me, the only issue would be which to do first. If a group of us do that, the deciding factor imo would be how many want to do a Rippavilla tour.

This sounds great. Let me know a meeting point and time Early is ok. I would do Rippavilla if others wanted to. Thanks!

I've been trying to find a ghost tour but haven't been too successful. Have you guys found anything?

This is advertised as no 1 ghost tour in nation, not sure if for the booze or the ghosts.....

Wasn't aware ghost tours were nationally ranked.....wonder on what basis:bounce:

Attendence? Reviews? Instances of paranormal activity?

You get enough of the one and no doubt you will start to see the other.

Shiloh Side Trip - Thursday, October 6, 2022

I am more than willing to pass through Shiloh National Military Park on my way to the Stones River Muster this coming October and share many of the historic sights of this beautiful battlefield. I am not a tour guide or expert about this park just an old man who has been blessed to visit Shiloh since 1960.

We could meet at the Shiloh Visitor's Center at 10 am. I would insist we eat lunch at Hagy's Catfish Hotel and finish out tour of the National Military Park about 3 pm and then proceed to the Hampton Inn Murfreesboro about a 3 hour drive away.

We can wait and see if any travelers wish to join up for a brief tour of Shiloh. Hopefully @16thAL and @MS2623 can join as they really know the park far better than I. Look forward to hearing from others interested in this possible side trip
Regards
David
Our plans are to drive up early Thursday morning to get in on the side trips . Plus haven't seen our fearless leaders smiling face in months lol

I can't say I'm going to that museum, or any side trips by the looks of my schedule with this muster and after a stunt one of the heads of the SCV pulled on me and Tom at the Jefferson Symposium I know I won't be paying dues no matter what.

The display Tom and I had, we got told we have no right to those CS artifacts by this National officer, can't properly take care of them or properly share them with the public so it was only right we donate them all to them and the right thing to do. Also, how I'm a sorry millennial for the whole Forrest thing.

I hope everyone that goes to that museum enjoys themselves, am glad folks want to see a Confederate Museum, but I'm pretty ticked and 100% done.

Arriving early in Murfreesboro on Thursday?

Yes sir . If I can wrangle those two females into the truck we gonna shoot for 8to 9 am
Somehow, some way, I plan to be in either Columbia or Spring Hill by 8 or 9am. It may be earlier than 8am if it's Columbia and anyone wants to go to Sam Watkins' gravesite at Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery too.

I wouldn't donate the time of day to those clowns. What gives them the right to say what you can or can't have or do?

It's 3.5 hours according to Google maps so I hope to be there fairly early .
