Hello.

I have a model 1860 Spencer Carbine (serial number 34,690) that I am hoping to learn more about. I will try to get a look at Marcos's book to see if it can tell me anything. It does not have a cartouche, so I expect that it was purchased by a state government. It came to my family during the Depression along with saddle bags, a sword, and a cannon ball.

If anyone has any insights or suggestions, I would love to hear them.

You will probably find a lot of information here using the search feature. It is in the upper right on main screen. Enter Spencer Carbine and read all the posts. Another source is the site CasCities that has a lot of Spencer info.

Welcome From THE Heart Of Dixie. Nice looking old war horse. It is not listed in the SRS and below is the range. keep in mind that if its not listed, its not listed and nothing can be read into the range numbers. The lack of a readable cartouche is common as they were typically light and the stock could have been refinished at sometime as its hard to tell from just the one photo you posted.

Thank you for trying to find the serial number in the SRS. The only hint I do have is that the person who gave it to my grandfather would have lived in the Toledo, OH area.

Thank you. I will pursue both of those avenues.
