I apologize in advance for a question y'all are no doubt tired of being asked here. (The SRS book is too expensive a purchase for me to buy for one use.)

Spencer Carbine
Serial # 54,041

When would this have been produced?
Is it listed in the SRS book? (I know that's a needle in a haystack)
I cannot find any mil inspector proofs.. Assuming this was military, would it have likely seen any use being such a late production?

Amateur guess here would be December 1864/January 1865 production.

THANK YOU!

If you could post some photos of your Spencer to include the makers marks on the top of the receiver and the serial # we can take a look and see what we can find out about your Spencer. Looking forward to seeing it.

Nice looking Spencer. It is not listed in the SRS and below is all the 54's listed. It is indeed a late war issue.

5371260C 64 CO A 3RD KY VOL CAV

5415160C 64 CO A 3RD KY VOL CAV

5458960C 64 CO A 3RD KY VOL CAV
5502260C 65 CO D 6TH ILL VOL CAV

The closest serial number is to the Michigan volunteer cavalry, less than 15 serial numbers away. This rifle came out of an older Michigan collection.

Will never know for certain and it's just my day dreaming but I imagine this one would have went to the same unit given where it came from.

Thank you again sir, you're a wealth of information.

You can't read anything into the SRS as if it ain't listed, it ain't listed.
