It's not really a pledge of allegiance…

It's more of a pledge to remember and honor the CSA in the form of a salute. Not even a pledge really.
The words:

"I salute the Confederate flag with affection, reverence, and undying devotion, to the cause for which it stands."

And it's always said after saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the US flag, and at least here in Texas the pledge to the State flag.

And I would like to point out SCV member on being sworn in, is also expected to swear allegiance to the US Constitution and so forth.

That's one of the things that was pointed out to me early on. The flag of the United States gets a pledge, while the Confederate flag gets a salute. The State flag gets a mix. "I salute the flag of South Carolina, and pledge to the Palmetto State, love, loyalty and faith."

Are you attacking the SCV's little, really harmless, salute to the Confederacy? Because everyone on this site is well aware of your really alarming hatred of the Confederacy and always refighting the war. Or pledges of allegiance to States?

Cause I'll take issue on the States one. I don't know about where you live, but here in Texas the Pledge of Allegiance to the State of Texas is ALWAYS recited alongside the US one. Even in schools.

I'd say it's healthy and in line with the founder's vision of this nation on separation of powers. And speaking on a personal level, I care a heck of a lot more about the State I live in and is "closer to home" on effecting my life than the distant "cares more about the rest of the world and money than Americans" USA.

And as for City's and County's, last time I checked if your an elected official to either you gotta pledge to uphold their laws when elected…
I wholeheartedly agree and that's what I love ❤️ about the Confederacy. How can you Hate someone who lived over one hundred years ago whose only fault was to defend the Land that they were standing on!! Look on this my gguncle (NFB's Cousin too) Col . Samuel Beck Rabun County delegate.

And here we go….

Are you saying in the State of Texas, in school, when you say the Pledge of Allegiance, you also take a Pledge of Allegiance to Texas? Shocking!😳

I've never heard of any state requiring that. I very much doubt New Hampshire has a pledge or any New England state. I think we have a song but it isn't one that anyone sings or has sung in like a hundred years. In fourth grade here we used to sing a lot of rousing Confederate songs! Because we are true Yankees here and are kind of like that.

Ah, I understand.

It can be costly to affiliate with organizations these days, for sure.
Try the DAR. I have a BASIC membership - That's around 90.00 and includes the chapter fees. I purposely don't go looking for more ancestors because that costs A LOT more. Then…. If you are into all the badges for doing the activities - NOT the ancestor bars, you can only get them from Hamilton Jewelers (and the ancestor bars too). And of course they try very hard, to sell you the 14K gold pins/bars, instead of the 14K gold-plated ones. And of course you have to buy the sash. And who wants to wear a sash with only ONE Chapter Pin and one ancestor bar! So this can get pricey, real fast!

Me? Fortunately, my chapter is out-of-state and I attend via Zoom. I visit occasionally and therefore do not have the sash or pins or bars. It can become quite the competition among women and I'm sure there is something similar amongst any of these male ancestor groups. It is appealing to the baser instinct of exclusivity and the inner circle and who has the gold pins, etc.

I am just interested in the history - Union or Confederate and what made them tick. That's it.

Can't you find those on eBay?

I have a gx5 grandfather who was in the battle of kings Mountain in 1780 Who is buried in Walhala S.C. I think Yankees think only their ancestors fought for OUR independence . Southerners were led to believe by(their own)politicians that it still was their land and they had a duty to protect it.

I'm not sure of your point - the gold ones on eBay are hundreds of dollars, sometimes thousands. I'm not going to put an ancestor member bar on my sash (if I had a sash) that isn't my ancestor so I would have to order that. Some of the generic pins are just about the same price as from the chapter.

Well I'm kind of against any Pledge of Allegiance, to me it's a relic of the 1930's, shouldn't be required unless your a soldier or elected official, and goes against the doctrine the founding fathers had of the government and nation loyal to the people and not the other way around, but hey it's here.

To me if there's to be one, one to the State makes sense. You own property, in that State, you do business there, you live there, you are around people who live there, you pay taxes to it, and let's remember the this is the "United States of America" not "Republic of America" or "Democratic Union of America" or any other conceivable name. It's the United States of America. :D

Least that's my philosophy.

I have never, ever heard that when discussing the Revolutionary War but you are free to think that if you want.

Stuff like this is what I love especially when I find a relative.

I you read the book Hornets Nest by Jimmy Carter , in the Acknowledgments he says" Most Americans know very little about major events of the war in Florida, Georgia and the Carolina's," I took it (most Americans)really to mean Yankees. Just saying and please don't be Offended 🤗

I'm good with that and share your feeling about my state vs the country. I personally would put some allegiance to my region after my state as the states of my region are similar in many ways and citizens travel to adjacent states frequently.

There were very few set piece battles in the Carolinas but I would argue that the war was won in Virginia but it all started to come together in the Carolinas. (Saratoga not withstanding) We have Siege of Charleston, Cowpens, Kings Mountain, Camden, Guildford Courthouse, et. al in the Carolinas. We are rich in Revolutionary history. I think that Lexington, Concord, Bunker Hill, and some of Washingon's battles just are the ones that get a lot more play in schools.

Exactly. As it happens my paternal gg grandfather (who lived in Charleston) owned a plantation in Colleton Co. that was originally given to Gen. Nathaneal Greene for his service in South Carolina (but which Gen. Greene lost due to bankruptcy). It's now owned by a timber company and, as far as I can tell from Google Earth, is a large pulpwood plantation.

I didn't know the south's roles in the rev. until I read this book. Mainly because there weren't many(books) . Then I found a relative who fought at the battle of kings Mt. Which was amazing 🤩. His Uncle was Gen. John Neville (whiskey Rebellion )from the Pittsburgh area. So I'm sure I have Yankee Cousins Too!

Cool ,my uncle Col Samuel Beck , got most of his land in Rabun County for his service in the seminole wars. It is said he owned most of the land under Warwoman creek and all the land above it between Clayton and South Carolina. All that land belongs to the Chattahoochee National Forest now.All his sons fought for the Confederacy.
