That's what i see, whether in the news or even in this thread, see people who admit never being in SCV making allegations that as a former member wasn't my experience at all. So don't see how the SCV can refute imaginary allegations, nor see why they should waste time on them.

They took down Andrew Jackson's statue in New Orleans and wasn't even a confederate.

The uneducated majority doesn't know what or who was dug up and they don't even care. But you can be sure they weren't vandalized any Yankees graves/. Monuments.iThev Yankees that burnt Atlanta and the rest of the state and began to burn South Carolina. Presumably his brothers were buried in a proper cemetery instead of a park.

He was buried in Elmwood cemetery in Memphis Next to his other brothers. And his wife joined him later. After being buried , there was a great movement to put an Equestrian statue with NBF on and move them to a prominent park named Forrest Park. When it was suggested to put him back by his brothers it was decided that was not happening.

We have a gen John B Gordon on an equestrian statue in front of the capital of Georgia. Don't know if he is under it or not. He was one of Lees most trusted generals.A fellow Walton County Governor He was in charge of rebuilding the capital after the town was torched. His name Was Henry McDaniel. Wounded at gettysburg. He came back after the war and built our capital with the gold dome, made from gold from our own mines in Dahlonega Ga.

It was the Forrest family who made that decision, not the SCV.

The family had two major requirements for any new burial location:
- adequate security to protect against vandalism
- the equestrian monument would be restored over their resting place

Elmwood Cemetery - where the Forrests were originally buried - was willing to have them placed back in their original plots, but not able to put the monument over that plot and unwilling to provide for additional security against potential vandalism.

The SCV offered to provide space at our HQ property & the family accepted that offer. The Forrests were reburied at SCV HQ in September 2021; funds are being raised to reerect the equestrian monument & plaza over the new gravesite.

I don't know what resources you've consulted, but I have been able to document a consistent, continuous operation of the SCV as an organization using digitized records that are accessible online (including but not limited to online newspaper archives).

The SCV now has a book available for purchase that gives brief bios on every Commander-in-Chief since the beginning until now (which my own research that I did before the book was published has verified as accurate).

... as for the SCV logo, it doesn't go back to 1896 but it does go back at least to the 1920s; a picture of it is in the yearbook & minutes of the 31st SCV Reunion from 1926.

Well unfortunately when it comes to the modern SCV, anything they say is as unreliable and fanciful as what they call "history" articles in the magazine. Utterly worthless and easily disproven or contradictory.

I think that needs to be touched on, the magazine. You read historical articles in there, and anything in issues from the late-80's to mid or late 90's and they are top shelf with reliable sources. They are excellent articles, usually by qualified researchers.

Then you get to the 2000's, about the time the power struggle with that Sweeney feller and his cohorts seizing power of the SCV, (last I checked the CiC-ship still tends to rotate between his buddies and folks they approve of the "Louisiana cabal" I mentioned in a previous post), but after they took over, just about every article in that magazine is utterly worthless and fantasy.

There's always exceptions, but when I was still a member one issue a year, with only one article, would be good and the rest trash.

I remember one issue they had a picture of a Yank private saying it was a picture of a Confederate!

You can't trust anything they say historically to me.

I would never join a group that reveres secession and the Confederacy (even if they do now also pledge allegiance to the US flag). I can see honoring one's ancestors but not the Confederacy.

I study the battles and the Confederate soldiers to honor the sacrifices of the Southern soldiers and their families—including my families— without approving the institution of slavery.
Just as in my genealogy research, I study wills, censuses and court files that document my ancestors owned slaves but without condemning them as criminals. I know some will never understand that I can respect my ancestors along with our American leads such as George Washington, etc.

If I used your own standard of research and applied it to what you have said regarding SCV history, I might come to the conclusion that anything you say historically can't be trusted...

As you have shown in your posts over the years, you have a major grudge against the SCV; I won't make a call as to whether it's justified or not, but I do know the organization is FAR from perfect and not every grudge is baseless. This grudge does seem to cloud your judgement in all discussion pertaining to the organization, though.

I'll be the first to say that the internal politics of the SCV is extremely frustrating at times, and there have been some folks who have held high positions of power who were not honorable men, but nothing will ever get better if all the good people leave or they get so frustrated that they say/do something rash enough to get kicked out. The original veterans gave their mantle to the SCV to carry on their work, and I think it's worth pressing on to keep it going in spite of my own personal issues I might have.

I personally prefer to not discuss internal SCV problems on public forums; if you'd be interested & willing to talk privately let me know.
