Thanks I will check it out. From other sources it appears my gun was delivered in the last quarter of 1864.
It is not listed in the SRS. The majority of the Spencer issued in lat 64 and early 65 went to Gen Wilson in Gravley Springs Al who was outfiiting his cavalry corp for their raid into Alabama in March of 65. He only wanted Spencers so as not to have a bunch of different ammo. Looking forward to seeing photos.

Interesting. I just googled him and will catch up with that raid. I have most of my firearms stored in an offsite location. I will retrieve it over the weekend and share a photo with you. Thanks.

I believe that the wood has been refinished post conversion so that would have eliminated any cartouche's Below is a link that will help answer some of you questions.

Great minds think alike, @ucvrelics and you are smarter than me. My first reaction to this piece was that it looks better than a Japanese-made Winchester from last week.

It's pretty, but someone's sanded it down and refinished it.

Below please find photos of the Spencer rifle we discussed previously. I also have included better photos of my Sharps carbine showing the inspector cartouche at the wrist and the 1867 conversion inspector cartouche in the center of the left hand side of the stock.

Nice looking Spencer, Is it a model 1860 or 1865? The hammer is beveled and the load tube has grooves as a 65 had. They did convert some of the 60 to a 65. Could you post a photo of the Spencer markings on top of the breech and what is the barrel length?

It is indeed a model 1860 with the 1865 conversions. Does it have the Stabler cutoff or a big screw head in front of the trigger?

Whoa Buddy, is there a capitol letter "C" in front of your Sharps serial #? I believe that serial # is too low for a New Model 1863 if I'm correct. There is no Cartouche on my Spencer either. Want a laugh, when I brought it the Numnuts said and advertised it as serial #39321 but when I got it home and cleaned it up a bit it was Serial #47262. He was reading it upside down. He had to refund me back $400 or take the deal back.
Reading upside down? Doesn’t really make sense with those two numbers being so dissimilar?
