The 26th Louisiana Infantry was organised in the spring of 1862 by Colonel De Clouet and assigned to General Shoup's Brigade. After Vicksburg it was attached to A. Thomas Brigade who was under his brother-in-law Richard Taylor.Thomas was probably still a Colonel at this time and it isn't known if De Clouet was still with the unit. He was a brigadier in the Louisiana State militia.
