Confederate War Aims

Then why withhold it from England?

Then why didn't the US collapse when cotton no longer was shipped North?

Because the Confederacy and it's leadership over estimated that particular cornerstone.

And here we are some 150 years after the war we have people still over-estimating cotton export importance to the USA GDP. Cotton exports accounted for 5% of the national GDP.

The cornerstone of the United States was Cotton.

Prove it with some economic data. Do the CivilWarTalk world a favor and prove your assertion that cotton exports were above 5-6% of national GDP. I say cotton exports were not remotely the cornerstone of the USA economy, and merely a tiny slice on economic pie chart.

I don't do numbers. But I am old enough to see the money flow and what it created.

Both the Union North and the Confederate South were what we consider ****s today. So that is irrelevant to the discussion.

Having a different opinion other than "The Confederate war aim was protecting slavery" is not celebrating them. It is merely an act of forming an opinion beyond modern sensationalism.
Then why hold up and honor ****s unless one is a ****?

Also, one side was fighting to enshrine **** in law. The other wasn't. Your attempt at a false equivalency is noted and rejected.

You mean you don't "know" numbers. Are you 175 years old? You anecdotally witnessed how cotton money flowed without knowing how numbers work? LOL.
Confederate Apologists don't do numbers, or historical evidence, or critical thinking. They only do "MUH HERITAGE" while completely overlooking the experiences of everyone who doesn't look like they look and think like they think.

"Raw cotton has been one of the chief exports from the United States since the beginning of the producing industry."

"In 1800 the value of cotton exported was $5,000,000, or 15.7 per cent of the total American exports; in 1913 cotton constituted 22.5 percent of total American exports."

Those quotes came from a scanned document from the 1923 Federal Reserve Bulletin.

https://fraser.stlouisfed.org/files/docs/publications/FRB/pages/1920-1924/26396_1920-1924.pdf

15% of total exports for the country is enormous and that number is from 1800 only 16 years after cotton exports started. That is just for raw cotton alone. Look at the other years noted in the document. It shows cotton as 60% of all exports in 1870. Over 50% in 1850.

Please, spare me the ill-educated commentary because you are totally confused. You are confusing export percentages with GDP percentages, which cotton exports consisted of 5% of the National GDP. Who cares what the percentage of exports it was because the US economy was closed and it had nothing to do with raising the GDP. If you understood how economics work you understand the 50% of exports equated to 5% of the GDP. Yes, you do learn something everyday and you learned there's a difference from export percentages and GDP percentages.

If you're trying to say that a commodity representing over 50% of all exported goods is unimportant, then what more needs to be said?

So, what was the next product percentage second to cotton? Or greater than cotton.

Cotton was a major part of total US exports, but the United States economy was not based on exports. In the end cotton was only about 5% of the US GDP. So it is true that cotton is important when one only looks at exports, but it is true that cotton was a factor in the US GDP but did not rule US GDP.

Federal Government was murdering Natives long after Slavery ended. Tell us that wasn't so bad.

Yankees rejected Slavery, and all Blacks in the Territories so they would be left for White Families. The North fought for ****. That's what the War was over. Northern Negrophobics rejected any diffusion of Blacks. Diffusion would of ended Slavery naturally. Any was too many for the Yankee 99%ers
As you well know and I documented for you many times and have a whole thread about" the Confedracy want nicer to the Indians" Southern white were enthusiastic about killing Indian's and taking their land as anybody else.
People of color moved to all states even Oregon despite laws poorly enforced.
