You should read Jefferson Davis' Inaugural Address sometime instead of bias history authors who highlight the words of the Vice President over the President because it's what they wish was true.

I've read that piece of propaganda. There is nothing in it that would lead me to believe that the entire confederate enterprise wasn't undertaken as an attempt to protect and expand the "right" to own other human beings.

This isn't a moral judgement on the confederates, they lived in a different time and truly believed that slavery was just and correct. Thank god we know better now and know they were wrong.

Here Davis tries to invoke Jefferson' DoI. However, the several states in their secession documents and debates made very clear that they believed that staying in the US would be destructive towards their ends because an anti-slavery party had won the election. If you cut through the euphemisms, Davis is really saying the US Constitution protects slavery but it looks like that may change so we had to declare independence in order to protect slavery.

I don't recall Jefferson Davis arguing to establish a multi racial democracy and outlaw slavery. A link to that speech would be great.

Yankee was invested just as much in Slavery as the South. New England was Built on Slavery. They didn't give a scoot about Blacks.

I never condoned your favorite go-to Native American diatribe, as if Confederate weren't a part of the poor treatment of natives both before and after the war. I agree that the way native Americans in S.C., NC, and FL were treated was terrible, both on the part of the federal government in general and southerners in particular. If it makes you feel better about your heritage and your worship of slavers, have at it. I think it's shameful.

Agreed. Davis was clear it was about trade/cotton. Many of the other Senators echoed the violation of the Constitution by failing to ensure the tranquility of all states. They did not want to overthrow Washington or invade the North. They wanted to leave.

Saying the War aim of the Confederates was protecting slavery is usually not a moral judgement against the South. The way I see it presented most often is a way to justify the horrible things the Union North did in the War. It is to protect the morality of the Union North far more so than to paint the South as immoral.

Probably because their main concern was protecting slavery and heritage groups main concern is protecting **** and the remembrance of those valiant heroes who fought to maintain it.

Both the Union North and the Confederate South were what we consider ****s today. So that is irrelevant to the discussion.

Having a different opinion other than "The Confederate war aim was protecting slavery" is not celebrating them. It is merely an act of forming an opinion beyond modern sensationalism.
