I believe that, my grandmother used to made the best too!!

Let's argue. MY grandmother used to make the best chicken and dumplings! Also, she did it in middle Georgia WITHOUT carrots.

MY favorite grandmother's name was Rosebud. She was the lunch room supervisor at our small city school. I would come in through the back door of the lunch room and she would make me a bacon and apple jelly sandwich. When going through the lunch line she would be the last server serving the dessert. Many times she would embarrass me by sending my plate back for a bigger piece of chicken or pizza or whatever. She always had fresh rolls or biscuits at the end of the line with stacks of fresh slices of butter. She was also in charge of the ice cream freezer during recess. We never needed money. They made homemade sloppy Joe's with fresh baked sliced buns. God I miss her!!

Sunday dinner at my grandma's house often included chicken and dumplings, plus a choice of two different homemade pies. Comfort food and warmth and security!

Salmon stew is good during cold weather. We have it often Use canned salmon and add butter, onions and celery and make like oyster stew. Louisiana hot sauce and crackers salt and black pepper is all that is needed.

Salmon stew sounds temptingly appetizing. I wouldn't mind giving that a try.

Use fresh milk and/or canned milk take out skin and bones, adding canned mushrooms is good too!!

All of our Grandmothers were the best cooks !

My Dad's Mom was the best in our family with chicken and dumplings. She always called it "chicken pie".
We all knew it was "chicken and dumplings", but it really was like a pie. She would roll the leftover dough into a circular pattern and place it over the chicken and dumplings after she removed said dish from the stove top and placed it into the oven for the last ten minutes. She called that "the crust".

Gosh that was delicious!

My Grandmother was born in 1896 and learned how to cook from her elderly Mother and older sisters.
So I'm guessing her recipe was pretty close to what was served during the Civil War era.
My Great Aunt was the best with biscuits and cornbread, but my Grandmother was the "Queen of chicken and dumplings".
