This recipe is from a lady in my UDC chapter. This was one from her family. Her ancestor fought for Confederacy and was from Florida.
Apple Bread Pudding
12 small baking apples, 1 large lemon , juiced and zest, 2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/4 cup butter, 1 1/4 cups brown sugar. 1 cup bread crumbs, 1 pint heavy cream, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon almond extract. Preheat oven 350 degrees.
Peel and core apples, slice very thin and place in bowl. Pour lemon juice and zest, add 1 teaspoon nutmeg and toss. Grease 9 x 13 inch dish with butter. Create layers of apple slices at bottom of dish and cover entire surface. Sprinkle layer of brown sugar then small chunks of butter, then thin layer of bread crumbs. Bake about 60 minutes. Warm the cream in sauce pan and whisk in powdered sugar and another teaspoon nutmeg and almond extract. Strain sauce into serving dish and spoon over the pudding.
