A recipe from Country Cooking. Another fine soup for these cold and damp days.

Peel thinly, one dozen potatoes. Slice and boil until tender. Add finely sliced celery tops. parsley and onion to the drained potatoes. Add 2 quarts sweet milk and bring to boil. Season to taste with freshly ground pepper and salt.

Serve with crackers.

This is how my Mom made it. Tasty on a cold day.

I'm in Berlin , Germany tonight. For appetisers at dinner my dad got German potato soup and it was very good. I had the goulash soup and it was amazing , I just love soup.
Was the restaurant like Seinfeld's soup Nazi? "No soup for you"!!

I bake my potatoes and cut them into bite size pieces, sometimes with the potato skin. It gives the soup a somewhat smokey flavor. First fry some bacon and remove after cooked. Add chopped celery and onions and cook until tender. Add milk, water, chicken base, salt and pepper, and garlic powder. Heat until almost boiling. In another pan make a roux and add to soup until thick and creamy. Stir in potato pieces, parsley and cream. Serve garnished with bacon pieces, cheese, and/or onions. I usually make cheddar bay biscuits to serve with the soup. My family requests this soup all year long. I think it's even better the next day when the flavors have mellowed together.
