Dec. 27th is National Fruitcake Day. Since I will be away thought post this old recipe from "Old Time Recipes To Enjoy", "The Kentucky Explorer", Dec. 2018.

Southern Fruit Cake

"One Cup of sugar, three eggs, one cup of Crisco, one teaspoon of powdered cinnamon, one cup of molasses, one half cup of sour cream, one cup seeded raisins, three cups of flour, one half cup of currants, one teaspoon salt, one fourth teaspoon grated nutmeg. one half teaspoon of baking soda, one half teaspoon of powdered cloves, one half teaspoon powdered allspice. Cream Crisco and sugar thoroughly together, add molasses, sour cream, flour, soda, well beaten eggs, salt, spices, and fruit. Mix well and turn in greased covered and papered cake tin and bake in slow oven for one and one half hours. Sufficient for one large cake."

Only raisins and currants in it,doesn't sound like much of a fruit cake.
 
Just about ready to pull mine out of the oven! I was able to make one large Bundt size cake and then two little mini tins sized cakes for gifts. Like I said, my recipe is really similar. Three cups of flour, cup of sugar, Crisco, etc. I did not add the sour cream though.
 
Getting all the ingredients ready today to make our holiday fruitcake! My daughter and I were just considering the recipe and hoping we had a everything purchased and planned. Looks like we are good to go!
