This recipe for Buttermilk cake from 1870. It is from "Mrs. Winslow's Domestic Receipt Book".

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Heat oven 350 degrees. Cream softened butter together with sugar. Add the eggs and the buttermilk and mix well. Mix the baking soda into flour and then add flour to wet ingredients. Pour into buttered 8 x 8 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes,

A delicious buttermilk cake.
