Next CWT tour

Would be a good time to go for Hugh Freeze, prior moral turpitudes aside. The Razorback's season has been so horrendous, I suspect they could afford to overlook any of that for a creative offensive mind.

I hear Arkansas is still paying off the last head Coach makes you wonder do they have the money to go after someone good or will they have to get a FCS Coach. If they go FCS route there some good choices at North Dakota State, James Madison, Wofford and Furman

Oh I sincerely doubt money will be an issue. I actually attended the U of A--the athletics program is very well-funded (some would argue overfunded), even if the results don't always indicate that. . . .

What is Liberty University considered?

So here's my thoughts for next year:

-Nashville/Franklin/Fort Donelson/Stone's River/Fort Negley/Forrest's Boyhood Home
-Shiloh/Corinth/Iuka
-Mobile/Biloxi/Beauvoir/Camp Moore
-Andersonville
-Mansfield/Pleasant Hill/Fort Buhlow/Yellow Bayou/Bayou Teche
-Savannah/Charleston/Wilmington
-Bentonville/Charlotte

Or, we could do it in Arizona and New Mexico! Picacho Peak, Fort Bowie, Apache Canyon, Dragoon Springs, Tubac and historic Mesilla!

The one thing that everyone has to keep in mind is time. As the host of this year group at Vicksburg I had a chance to talk to most of folks that attended and even though we had folks that had plenty of time for side trips before and after the official tour the majority of the group only had time for the Friday at 1pm to Sunday at 1pm. You have to pick a sight that has a lot to see with a limited amount of driving. The more driving time you have means less touring time. Plus a lot of folks drove in so they really don't want to spend a bunch of time driving all over the place. We have to do whats good for the majority of the group and look at sites that will give us a great trip that is pretty well self contained but also has plenty of side trip options for the other folks that can come in early and stay late. That being said I'm going Stones River or Chancellorsville/Wilderness area.

Same here. But I'd vouch more for Nashville/Franklin/Stones River. I guess another to be considered would be any in Alabama. Such as Selma.

Not really much to see in Alabama except Mobile. Fort Morgan and Gaines, Spanish Fort, Blakley. How are you going to get Nashville/Franklin/Stones River all in 2 days?

Well said !

Logistics for the main objectives are paramount.

Any site chosen will have plenty of side trips available for special interests.

I look at it more as least 4 days, but some cant attend before thurs, or Sunday or later, so the biggest events are tried to scheduled Fri/Sat, but both I've attended I've attended I did more then two

I havent weighed in here yet, so thought I'd add my two cents. I've been lucky enough to attend three of these CWT gatherings and assisted with another I wasnt able to attend (so Ive been involved in a total of four.) I cant adequately relate the value there is to actually meeting each other face-to-face; touring the battlefield with other people who are really interested; having knowledgeable members do the presentations; not to mention the camaraderie with other people who are just as interested in the Civil War as you are. It's an experience that I wish every member was able to take advantage of.

If you haven't participated before, there's no way to understand the benefits - or the challenges. The "car snakes" and lost participants are real problems. City traffic is just not a possibility unless you rent a bus. Renting a bus costs money and unless someone is willing to donate that fee.... Even if participants are willing to pay their fair share, there's no way to know how much that will be until you know for sure how many people are coming. Unfortunately, you dont know that until you get there and people start arriving. Say you rent a bus....and only 4 or 5 people sign up. Someone has already paid the nonrefundable deposit.

I do like the idea of having more than one each year and suggest that, if there is support for that, one be in the East and one in the West. I do CW travel specifically to learn more about the battles in which my regiment participated. So even though I live closer to Chickamauga, Shiloh, Mobile, Nashville, etc., I am mainly interested in eastern battlefields. Some folks prefer western battlefields.

In an effort to move the decision-making process forward :D

...here are your dozen suggestions, in no particular order. I may have missed some. If so, please let me know prior to the list being transferred to a poll. Looks like a GREAT list!

1. Mobile/Fort Morgan/Fort Gaines/Spanish Fort AL
2. Stones River/Franklin/with or without Nashville TN
3. Fredericksburg/Chancellorsville/Wilderness/Spotsylvania VA
4. Petersburg/Pamplin Park/Five Forks/Sailor's Creek VA
5. Savannah GA and/or Charleston SC
6. Prairie Grove/Pea Ridge AR/Wilson's Creek MO (Please clarify: there may be consensus that this one should be postponed until after renovations?)
7. Washington DC
8. Picacho Pass AZ
9. President Lincoln Alton/Springfield IL
10. Shiloh/Corinth/Iuka MS
11. Richmond/Gaines Mill/Malvern Hill/Cold Harbor VA
12. Antietam/South Mountain MD/Harper's Ferry WV

I have to respectfully disagree as there is no way our group can do all 3 between Friday at 1pm and Sunday at 1pm. We could have spent a week at Vicksburg and other outlying battles. We have member presentation and a lot of discussions. We don't do the tourist tours.
