Need some help here from the members. I had to cancel my original trip. I now have a choice between two, I can only choose one. 1. Vicksburg, this would include trip down the Blues Highway from Clarksdale through Cleveland to Vicksburg, all sites in Vicksburg plus the campaign trial. I would have time for a brief stop in Nashville to catch a couple places (Kelly's Point Battlefield now back open) and a short stop in BG for a couple Civil War locations + the Corvette Museum. 2. Murfreesboro, Nashville & Bowling Green. An entire day in Murfreesboro, a day of Spring Hill, Franklin and Thompson's Station. Another day most would be checking out locations for the Battle of Nashville before travelling to Bowling Green. A full day to see sites in Bowling Green then the next day maybe one or two spots in BG before heading to Louisville which just might include The Churchill Downs Museum. Of the two which trip would you pick. I have been to Vicksburg twice already as well as Nashville. Stones River is one of my favorites by I have been there 3 times.

I've been to both and if you had not been to either , hands down it would be Vickburg. You have been to both places so it's just a preference call on you part. However, if you pick Vicksburg and head north to Nashville on I-55 you really should consider taking a a few hours to stop at Guntown ( 20 minutes N of Tuplio) to Brices Crossroads Battlefield , the site of one of Forrest's biggest wins.

I agree, I prefer Vicksburg as far as ACW site, and the blues highway and delta in itself is interesting. Also depending on route you go, parkers crossroads is also worth while if went up blues highway to Memphis then to Nashville. Or if came back that way from Nashville.

Vicksburg. I've been to Murfreesboro, Spring Hill and Franklin. Besides, they have the National Tribune at Vicksburg.

I was to Parker's Crossroads on my last Vicksburg trip in 2022. There are a few spots on the trace I haven't seen yet and last time Grand Gulf was in flood stage so I couldn't go there. I'm not brave enough to attempt the Shaifer Road to The Shaifer House but I'd like to get there one time. Also would like to catch the Mississippi River Basin Scale Model to see what it looks like after all the cleanup work.

If it's dry, don't be afraid to attempt Shaffer house. Road wasn't bad if dry when we did it, just narrow in spots

I agree, but that road is a challenge no matter the condition.
It's very easy to get lost as well.

However, it's worth the challenge ... and a memorable adventure !
The sunken wilderness "roads" down there have not changed since General Grant choose those paths when he marched his troops inland after landing below Vicksburg.

And swing by Greenwood to see the site of Fort Pemberton where Confederate General William Loring stopped the US Navy not once but twice.
It is not a lot to see there but you can see a part of the earthworks that is hidden away in the woods.

If you go to Vicksburg, you can also visit Port Hudson in Louisiana. The roads are much better than they were in 1863.

Since you asked.....I like to stay away from crowded cities. I lived in Nashville back in the late 70s, when I was in college. It was cool back then but not so much now. Crowds, heavy traffic, high prices are the norm in Nashville. The battlefield is now covered by urban sprawl. If you go to Nashville.....arm yourself.
