Hindman seemed to have had a liking for Irishmen.

Apparently, he was 1st Lt. and later Captain of Walker's 2nd Tennessee Irish Regiment (which later became the 5th Confederate Regiment under J. A. Smith). It seems in the reorganization of the regiment with the 21st Tennessee, he was superfluous and decided to work on staff duty.

After Hart's wounding at Helena on August 6, 1863 command of the unit fell to Lt.Col. James W. Rogan.

Apparently, Rogan, like Hart, came from Memphis, and transferred from the 15th Tennessee to Arkansas.
