He had already served temporarily in divisional command for 2 years before he was even named a brigadier general. Some of his assignments include the 19th Indiana, 19th brigade , 4th Division 2 nd Corps Army of Ohio , 3rd brigade, 2nd Division, 14th Corps Army of Cumberland as a colonel.
