Tell me more! Colt 1862 Police - reference information

Can anyone point me to quality reference information on the Colt 1862 Police (websites, books, etc)? I am in the market for an 1862 Police and would like to know more about them, the variations through their production history, serial number ranges when key variations occurred (such as switching the serial number from the cylinder flutes to the back of the cylinder, and when they stopped putting the "PAT SEPT 10th 1850" marking on the cylinder, etc).

Any firsthand information from the Forum members would also be welcome.

My table top colt reference is colt firearms by James seven. To save you a buy I'll add the pages on the 1862 police . Hope it comes out legible
