Interesting story - -

Somewhere in 1850/1851, Burnside had proposed marriage to another and was left in a rather embarrassed position. The "legend" goes that he proposed to a Miss Charlotte Moon. It is said that when to minister asked Miss Moon if she takes this man to be her husband she replied "No Siree Bob" and ran down the aisle. The story goes that when Charlotte was eventually engaged again to an Ohio lawyer her future husband flashed his gun stating there will either be a wedding today or a funeral tomorrow.

Charlotte Moon would go on to be a Confederate spy and was caught by none other than General Burnside and would be under house arrest until he gave her - freedom.
