OTD - January 25, 1863
At a 10 am meeting with Generals Burnside and Halleck, President Lincoln makes the decision to replace Burnside with General Joseph Hooker. This comes about after the disaster at the Battle of Fredericksburg and then Burnside's infamous Mud March.

Sears says Federal desertions were equivalent to a regiment every 3 days during this period. Demoralized troops and the issuance of the EP as factors.

All to create the Hero of Chancellorsville, Hooker.

Period Northernism would like to forget.
