The Shenandoah River is in the background. This was a pic taken on my tripod with the timer set on my Canon AE-1 program 35 mm after a days filming for "Gods and Generals." I'm on the right with my '42 Springfield. It's an Armisport. They were inexpensive back then!! Like $400 brand new. The guy to the left of me in the pic was from the deep south, like Alabama, I can't recall. But you're looking at second unit re-enactors after a day's filming around Sharpsburg, not far from Harper's Ferry. Our cabin is about 9 miles from there on the main fork of the river. I can't fit into any of my vintage clothing anymore, but my brogans still fit!!!! I do the civilian impression now days, much easier on this old man. Last pic is on set prior to another take of the charge we made during the Chancellorsville surprise attack

Fantastic, you are to be congratulated! Where did you get the big pieces of seasoned oak? Had you shadowed an Amish wheelright? (there's nothing simple about those wheels, all the subtle angles and the wood and metal shrink-fit calculations etc.). How did you select paint color shade - old sample chip? Has the NPS had you over for demos / lectures?

Our midwestern unit had to give up its working A forge, which had been built by Wayne Henson.

The hubs are laminated from thin-ish layers of seasoned oak. I found the gentleman who helped the Park Service mix-and-reproduce the correct paint color from period ingredients found in the back of an old warehouse. The machine mixing instructions for the correct paint color, and step-by-step instructions, photographs, and calculations to build the wheels, and "shrink-fit instructions",
may be found in my book . As far as I know, it is the only book with *complete* step-by-step instructions for building wooden wheels.

WIP AOT uniform, jacket is a kit from Wambaugh and White, trousers from B and B tart, hat is a Dirty Billy and leathers are a combination of Missouri
Boot and Shoe and Cary Davisson, and handkerchief South Union Mills. This was taken at a living history event and I wasn't wearing ever as some of it was on the display table. Unit 15th Texas.
