While I no longer take the field due to a variety of issues I still participate in a variety of other ways.

Sunday I was asked for a picture and explanation of the why and what of my uniform.

3rd or 2nd Sgt of the 4th MN VI carrying standard accoutrements and canteen as well as a Colt alteration of the M1841/45 with Sabre bayonet. The Sgt wears a civilian vest under his sack coat with a simple penny pipe riding in a button hole. Only the top button is buttoned to allow more air flow. Brogans and shirt are of a civilian pattern instead of the more common issue. He wears a standard forage cap instead of ( what was often considered) the more comfortable dress hat/Hardee/Davis hat which was also far more common in the 4th.

What cannot be seen is the pocket knife and larger utility knife secured by improvised lanyards to a button on the vest. There is also a tobacco pouch, match safe and comb spread through the vest pockets as well as a small "housewife" sewing kit.

Coffee pot, Haversack, plate cup, utensils and blanket roll reside in the improvised barracks in the repurposed carriage house.

Love the impression! I am an amateur tailor - so clothing is among the main first things I notice and look to. Rather rare to see so many accurate details & proper fitting in an impression outside of the work of other tailors - this looks great! From the way the sleeve meets the body to the slight tapering of the trousers popular enough to be common in military issue. Solid impression all around. "Look like the pictures" is the ultimate goal, and for the most part this fits the criteria!
