Woods replaced Peter Osterhaus in command of 1st Division, 15th Corps, during the Georgia Campaign as Osterhaus was reassigned. He'd play a part at Dallas, Bald Hill, and Ezra Church, and would be the main union commander on the field at Griswoldville (probably the largest field battle of the Savannah Campaign, as lopsided as it was).
