1862: Recruiter for 28th​ Virginia Infantry Regiment in February​

1862 – 1863: Major of 28th​ Virginia Infantry Regiment​

1862: Wounded in the face at the Battle of Seven Pines, Virginia​

​

1862: Wounded in the thigh at the Battle of Gaines Mill, Virginia​

1863: Told his men at Pickett's Charge "Now, boys, put your trust in God and Follow me!"​

1863: Acted as Commander of 28th Virginia Infantry after other officers went down​

The Confederacy lost a lost of promising young field grade officers at Gettysburg and Major Allen was another one on that list.
