Just came across this bit of trivia about the General. As US Congressman he advocated for blind veterans of the ACW and requested coinage from the Mint carry markings to distinguish their value. George Morgan (of silver dollar fame) produced Shield and Liberty nickel patterns with 5 evenly spaced notches on the rims. Never approved for production, nevertheless they found their way into the hands of collectors and were dubbed "blind man's nickels"
