In school we were taught that Pony Express riders were small and slight statured men or boys. This factor seems like it was all but ignored or not addressed at all in "Pony Express" or any other movies.Was it and maybe I'm just forgetting?

I like Charlton Heston movies but if you never expect realism from Hollywood you will be grateful for the few occasions they get anything right, no matter what it is. If it's got beautiful girls it got something right.

The weight limit for riders was 125 pounds.

Very similar to horse jockeys, who had to weigh 125 pounds or less, and in some cases, even less than that. If anyone has ever seen the movie Seabiscuit, this is very well represented in that.

Was looking into some aspects of American Primeval.....as far as can tell Rockwell isn't in it, unless part of a fictional composite.

how bout Macho Callahan? I ran across this crazy trailer from the 1970 movie. Appears to have some loosely based connections to Andersonville prison.

It's not a so bad movie after all, the first part happens in a confederate jail (not Andersonville), where the US soldiers are badly treated.
There's a mutiny at the prison, but the Confederates use a Gatling gun against the prisonners...
All along the film there're strange scenes that seem to be putted there without any particular reasons.

RIGHT! I thought I was pretty well versed in western and western type movies, but this one I've completely missed some how. I'm gonna give it a watch and hope the movie lives up to the bizzare trailer

I would suggest a trip down foreign old school horror movies but I would worry about your mental well being. Actually , come to think of it ,it would probably be just a walk in the park for you. You are nothing if not resilient. You have already been our guide into the unknown yet very interesting depths.

The trailer was better than all two hours of Guns of the Magnificent Seven, so it can't be too bad.

TBH as much as I like wacky stuff I don't like exploitation trash. Not my cup of tea--it's the Catholic homeschoolboy in me.

Continuing with the outrageous there also is The Outrage (1964). Interesting choice for a movie with conflicting points of view, uncomfortable matter at the center (just thought about a partial comparability to The Last Duel). Not sure how well thought out it was to add brownface Paul Newman to that ... different times, I know, but still, some cases work better then others. Maybe there was some shock value intended.

So far, I'm in the middle of the 2004 Alamo. Real good so far, but slow.

I was thinking about getting that version of The Alamo on DVD. I don't think it can be too bad considering the subject is pretty interesting, at least to this non Texican.

I actually prefer the 2004 version of the Alamo over John Wayne's film. Asides from the inaccuracies, John Wayne was not the right actor to play Davy Crockett. Crockett was no 6'4" hulk of a man. He was, like most Texicans,quite "average".

@Polloco I'm going to get the 2004 version based on what you said. I liked John Wayne's version as entertainment if not history, but I think I might like this one even better.

There are those who say that John Wayne's version of the Alamo is a propaganda piece much like the "Green Berets". It's still entertaining.
