I recently acquired a Starr 1858 DA Army. As I indicated in my introductory post, it's all matching numbers, and very close to functioning properly. The hand spring is broken off at the attachment point, and it is proving to be very difficult to remove the stub. I STILL have 2 stuck screws, and I don't think that the nipples will ever come out of the original, matching cylinder. One of the stuck crews is the rear screw for the trigger guard, and the other is the hinge screw. Neither screw is keeping me from getting it apart for repair. I have sourced reproduction parts and screws from several sources. The takedown screw is the only one I have had to use, so far.
I'm trying to gather as much information as possible about this particular revolver.
Do any of you fine folks know of any database that gives year of manufacture by serial number? I'm not opposed to buying a book or paying to download, so long as it actually contains the information I'm looking for. I'd hate to spend a wad of money, only to find nothing pertaining to my interests.
