Socket Bayonet at local antique store

I found this bayonet at my local antique store. It's listed as being for a 1873 trapdoor rifle. I was hoping to get y'alls thoughts as in this same booth they have a US marked M1 garand bayonet as German. Here are the best pictures I could get.
Any ideas?

If it were me I'd prefer a Civil War or earlier period bayonet. You can find one for similar $$ if you search around online. But it looks nice and comes with a scabbard. Hard to say for sure it's legit without a closer look.

While designed during our WBTS, this style of scabbard with the swiveling brass hook did not come into use until the Indian Wars era.

To save making new bayonets for the trapdoors, the US armory did cold swaging, reducing the inside diameter of the socket to more tightly fit the smaller outside diameter of the muzzle of the trapdoor configuration. An easy way to tell if it has been swaged is take a Lincoln penny (it just happens to be the correct size) and insert it into the base of the socket; if it goes in, it is still CW rifled musket sized. If it won't go in, it has been reduced for trapdoor use.

Really? Huh. Neat trick. I'll give that a try.
I don't have a rifle yet so I need to start there but I saw the bayonet and was curious. Thanks for the tips.

I'm not looking for a trapdoor necessarily. At least not yet. I would rather have something more appropriate for a Confederate Cavalry trooper. I just stumbled upon that bayonet and was curious about it.

I'm mighty interested in the wooden powder horn--estuche in Spanish--that sits right next to the Trapdoor bayonet.... But not $95 dollars interested...!
