This recipe for Peach Cordial is based on George Washington's original recipe. Washington produced cordials at Mt. Vernon. He made peach brandy and rum which are part of the ingredients. The brandy and rum are available at the Shops at Mt. Vernon and made at the Distillery which is on site.
Recipe:

1 bottle George Washington Peach Brandy
1 bottle George Washington Rum
2 cups water
2 cups cane sugar
8 peaches cut in half and seeded
juice of one lemon

Combine peaches, sugar, lemon juice in pot with the water. Cook slowly. Strain into mixing bowl. Let cool in refrigerator for 2 hours. Por in Brandy and Rum and mix. Pour thru strainer and into large pitcher. Chill and serve.

This was a treat for the Washingtons and their guests and handed down to family and friends.
