It's been "played with" for sure.
What I meant it has been "refinished" at least the stock.How can you tell? Respecfully
Without a photo of the full rifle we can't tell if it has been cut down in length. The photo of the tang appears to show that it has been welded. Where is that odd brass piece set into the stock? -- it is not original to the rifle. Is the bore rifled or bored out smooth? All the things that have been done to this rifle reflect things done long after the Civil War.
