1861 – 1863: Captain Company C, 38th Georgia Infantry Regiment​
1862: Participated in the Virginia Peninsula Campaign​
1862: Acted as regimental commander at the Battle of Antietam​
1862: Acting Regimental Commander at the Battle of Fredericksburg​
1863: Protested being overlooked for promotion and was arrested​
1863: Arrested from January thru February due to his protesting​
1863: Lt. Colonel of 38th Georgia Infantry Regiment​
1863: Acted as Regimental Commander at Battle of Gettysburg​
1863: Mortally Wounded on July 1st fighting Barlow's Knoll​

Died: July 1, 1863

Place of Death: Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Cause of Death: Wounds to the temple

Age at time of Death: 21 years old

Burial Place: 1865, Taken home but not buried for seven years, remained in his mother's parlor in Swainsboro, Georgia

A Lt. Colonel at 21. Think about that for a second. That is a rather high rank for someone so young, but in this war, thats nothing; Philipp Frazier of the 27th Virginia was a Major at just 17 before he died in the Wilderness. Galusha Pennypacker became a general at age 20, too young to even vote at the time.
