Member Review Lochlainn Seabrook

I spent about a year investigating IFOTOS before I found out it was hooey, to my great disappointment. On the Jedi Council Forums there was this prank spread around of a supposed "great" fan film titled Iron Fist of the Obsidian Sith (I was one of the fools who fell into it). It was of course totally fake.

This Seabrook mystery feels like that: is he real or a prank?
If the guy on Reddit as well as one of the forum members here said they've met him, he's probably real... just with way too much time on his hands (Currently Seabrook is the author and editor of nearly 100 adult and children's books (a total of 13,000,000 words) and a twisted perception of reality ("endorsed internationally by leading experts, museum curators, award-winning historians, bestselling authors, celebrities, filmmakers, noted scientists, well regarded educators, TV show hosts and producers, renowned military artists, esteemed heritage organizations, and distinguished academicians of all races, creeds, and colors.")

Dang guys I forgot he wrote a movie! I've seen it. It's a 0/10. Makes Ed Wood look like Akira Kurosawa. It was based on his biography of Forrest: A Rebel Born.

I've reviewed it elsewhere:

I've reviewed it elsewhere:

Lochlain and his crowd are apparently unacquainted with the definition of "infamous".

This company bio on their website is laughable as well. I mean: "Our company was founded by independent thinkers with one primary objective: To reeducate the world concerning facts that have been left out of mainstream books." should be a big red flag right there. I mean, nothing says "trustworthy" more than "We know something that you don't, and to get it, just send us 50 bucks and we will give you all of our precious secrets gracefully written by Lochlainn Seabrook upon the pages of his wonderful books." Sea Raven Press is about to revolutionize the way we think about history!

I know we're having fun with this, but are some of these writers and their works what we want to give additional bandwidth to? Are these kinds of threads and posts diluting the CivilWarTalk brand? My understanding is that Management would like to see something from CivilWarTalk come up high in the list of search results when someone does a Civil War-related search. Are these the kind of threads/posts that fit that bill? I hate to be a Debbie Downer (sorry, Deb, I know you want your name back, too), but as Forum Host I'm sometimes forced to "adult." :frown:

Perhaps a compromise is in order. Pillorying yardbirds like these is fun (Yeah, I know. I am being cheap, shallow, and petty), but these kinds of discussions can warn new readers about such charlatans.

You are correct, though. This really isn't who we are. So, after about 5 or 6 posts, can't you just lock the thread?

It may not be who you are. There are about a hundred trending topics not this one. If one does not like it, it is their privilege not to get involved. Why you want my thread locked is beyond me.

What's worse? Good-natured lampooning about a ridiculous author or 40+ pages about the definition of a "soldier"?

The word "adult" makes me sad. It's more fun being 7th Grade level.

A point, though: it's not like I started a thread about how great he is! Now that would be bad for CWT!

That's certainly a fair point but several other threads (which shall not be mentioned by name here) were initiated with posts containing bizarre, absurd conspiracy theories and those threads were allowed to move forward. Nothing about this one is as remotely embarrassing as some of that material. I would also note that Seabrook is the subject of several posts in another, moderated thread and he is posited as a Civil War author.

This is basically a research project when I get the book, which'll be in the upcoming weeks (I'm not ordering it yet).

I had an epiphany to check out that Defending Dixie's Land book for Seabrook stuff. I don't have it so I used Amazon's "search inside", and we've got eight references to him!:

I'm more horrified by Mr. Bishop's typos, like italicizing Seabrook's name. Maybe he really is fake.

Since the author is a direct descendant of Tiberious, why not buy it from the website. Of course, you'll probably have to pay in aurei, or the equivalent in silver denarii. Ever look up the bronze equivalent of the denarius, by the way?

In seriousness I don't want him to get any money out of me, and sadly the cheapest used on Amazon is:

I watched this guy review them. Sadly, he committed suicide not long ago. He seems like a nice guy. He said Seabrook is not a partisan for Davis or Forrest, which I doubt.

BTW A Rebel Born is HUGE. Bible-sized. Amazon said it is 822 pages, but it looks longer.
