One example - after the war Jefferson Davis sold his plantation to a black man. Really? His brother Joseph had always kept title to Brierfield, allowing Jefferson to live there, operate it,and take earnings before the war. After the war Joseph sold the property to former family slaves and left the operating income - but not the property - to Jefferson in his will. The former slaves defaulted on the mortgage after Joseph died, so it went into his estate. There was some nasty litigation between Jefferson and other heirs after which Jefferson prevailed and got title. He kept it. So much for that one ...

I absolutely hate it when actual facts get in the way of a great story. I still want to know what the guy running Rockwell's foundation was looking at when he dished out the "schollie" money. Or - more likely - what he was on ...
