Lee-Jackson Day 2024

Since this IS the event thread. I was supposed to be there but it appears I have a flu or something close to it. @Viper21 what are the memorial bricks? Is it something I (we) can buy and have our name put on it, etc? How does that work and where does the money go.

Yes. You can put your name, your ancestors name, group name, etc.

The money goes to the park itself which is owned by our SCV Camp, & is a 501(c)3 non profit organization.

You can order your brick here: https://thestonewallbrigadescv.squa...rk-bricks/4?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false

I hope everyone made it home safe. It's cold & miserable here today, with a little bit of snow on the ground.

It was so awesome to see friends from all over the country, & make some new friends. I sure enjoyed seeing @Diane123 @gjpratt & @Philip Leigh again..! It was a pleasure to meet @ChargingStag who travelled from the UK to be at this event..!! I'm sure there were other forum members present, my brain is a little slow after a very busy weekend.

Certainly missed @lelliott19 @Andersonh1 & @Stone in the wall who have all experienced our event before, & couldn't make it this year. Y'all missed a good one. Already looking forward to next year. I'll be making some announcements about upcoming events for 2024 in the next few weeks. I know we will be having a monument dedication in April, & a significant event at the Lee-Jackson Memorial Park on Memorial Day Weekend (most likely the Saturday).

Geez. I hate to see this forum end up just about throwing stones. The OP didn't express a statement of fact but, rather, simply invited folks to a gathering. If one doesn't approve of such gatherings that's one's business but I don't see why challenging the gathering is necessary. Why can't we just let others do as they wish in whatever way has meaning to them (assuming they aren't imposing on others) ? Seems these days everything is subject to public attack.

If you don't agree that Lee or Jackson should be honored then don't but why go out of your way to attack those who feel otherwise ? They aren't imposing on you. If you don't share their views fine but attacks here seem like just going out of one's way to attack others. We can all do without that methinks.
Hmmmm.....trying to remember.....wasn't there once a thing like....live and let live?

@BlazingSaddles and I had such a wonderful time! I plan on doing a travel log post soon, but due to the unexpected beautiful weather (snow) we are just now heading out for home! Cannot wait for next year's event! Thanks again @Viper21 and the Stonewall Brigade for such wonderful hospitality and learning opportunities!

I made my second annual trip to this unique event. I am a poor photograph chronicler but here are a few.

Snowed in! Col Alto parking lot Monday night.

Col Alto. HQ for the events. It is an historical mansion that was home of Virginia Gov. and Congressman McDowell. It is now part of a Hampton Inn but the mansion itself has several unique rooms as part of the hotel.

Here is one of the rooms in the mansion.

Again I cannot say enough good things about the Stonewall Brigade and all its fine work. Their Lee Jackson Day program has become so popular and well attended that it has outgrown the Col Alto event facility for its Symposium presentations. As I said last year, I am making this an annual event.
