1860: Graduated from Winchester Medical College in Winchester, Virginia​

Occupation before War:

1860 – 1861: Medical Doctor in Marion County, Virginia

Civil War Career:

1861 – 1862: Captain of Company A, 5th​ Virginia Infantry Regiment​
1862: In April, Elected Lt. Colonel of 5th​ Virginia Infantry Regiment​
1862 – 1864: After Col. Baylor was killed leading the brigade at Second Manassas, Funk became Colonel of 5th​ Virginia Infantry Regiment​
1863: Temporarily commanded his brigade as the senior Colonel during the Battle of Chancellorsville after Brigadier General Paxton was killed.​
1863: In command of the 5th​ Virginia Infantry Regiment at Culps Hill at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.​
1863: On October 26th, Funk and the regiment were involved in a skirmish with federal cavalry, where 5 bullets cut through his clothes without wounding him​
1864: Mortally wounded during the Battle of Winchester, Virginia on the 19th of September.​

Died: September 21, 1864

Place of Death: Winchester, Virginia

Age at time of Death: 27 years old

Burial Place: Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia

According to, Confederate Colonels, A Biographical Register, by Bruce S. Allardice (Columbia, MO: University of Missouri Press, 2008), Funk graduated in 1860 from the Winchester Medical College in Winchester, Virginia, not the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
 
I found a very good biography of him but it was written by our Luke Freet so I'll leave the rest to him.
