Flintlock flint cover

Probably a silly question. What is the flint cover shown by the arrow in the image called? If it even has a name. Is it just leather, if not, what material is it?

It helps the metal jaws grip the edges of the flint.

Also helps prevent cracking of the flint if you tighten the jaw too tight which can happen. This way the flint lasts longer.
