Lee was a little "upset" with Drayton for not launching his brigade into the attack at 2nd Bull Run. After other poor showings at South Mountain and Antietam, Drayton's brigade was divided among 3 other brigadiers leaving Drayton without a command.

After he was no longer with the Army of Northern Virgina he was assigned to court duty. He was then transferred to the TransMississippi Department where he sat on the court investigating General Price's 1864 Missouri expedition.

The Drayton family literally experienced the Civil War as 'brother against brother.'

Thomas' younger brother was a US Navy officer who remained loyal to US after secession. He commanded a vessel in the campaign against Port Royal, SC, where his brother was one of the Confederate comanders.
