Hello! I'm brand new here! Our family has loved studying about the Civil War for several years, but I have a portrait that we just can't put a name on.

A friend of ours just opened a coffee shop, and the decor includes several old pictures on the walls. Among them was a large portrait of this Civil War leader/soldier (?)... I told him I'd try to track down who he was. That led me to this forum, where I thought someone might recognize who he might be! Any help is appreciated. :-)

I agree with huskerblitz, great photo. You might try Ron Coddington. He owns Military Images magazine. You could find him on Facebook. He specializes in Civil War photography.

Welcome aboard from upstate New York. Someone here will know the identity of that handsome soldier.

Has your friend taken it down and looked on the back of the Frame? If there nothing on the dust paper, remove it and check the back of the photo. Many photographers would put the ID on the back along with their own stamp.

Regarding the lovely iphone reflection in the ... ahem... crotch area, I debated cropping my photo, but I wanted to show as much coat, sword, and painted background as possible. That chair in the background was a painted scene for portrait taking, I'm sure.

John Davison, that is a good point... I should ask him if there is a dust paper on the back that can be removed! BTW, I too, am from upstate NY!

And thank you for everyone's comments, welcomes, and suggestions! I knew this was the right place to come with this! ;-)
