His seat in Congress was filled by Stephen Mallory II, son of the one-time Secretary of the Navy.. Davidson apparently lost the election or nomination as he was called an "unsucessful candidate" in 1890.

I suppose he could be called "Col." as this was probably his militia rank. He only achieved Lt. Col. in the Confederate Army and Lt. Colonels were sometimes called Colonel.
