Date Nut Pudding was a favorite dessert from my Aunt's family. It dated back before turn of the century . She served it during the Christmas Holidays.

1 cup chopped pitted dates
1 cup boiling water
1 1/4 teaspoon soda
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon shortening
1 egg
1 1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup walnuts

Mix dates, boiling water and soda. Set aside. Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. Combine flour and baking powder in sifter. Sift over creamed mixture; blend. Add date mixture, then chopped walnuts. Bake in greased 8 inch square baking pan at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool. Serve in squares and top with brown sugar sauce..

Brown Sugar Sauce

Mix 2 cups brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 4 tablespoons flour, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.

Combine with 2 cups boiling water in saucepan. Cook until thick. Add 4 tablespoons butter and 2 teaspoons vanilla, Cool.

This sounds like a good recipe,I haven't had date nut pudding for years.

It is delicious. My aunt had many specialties. It was always fun to go to her house. She always decorated for Christmas and made many things for people for Christmas, I have mentioned Advent calendar she made for me. Also have some wonderful home made ornaments she made.

With the holidays approaching, wantd to bring this recipe back up. This is a delicious pudding to serve for Christmas dinner.

Another favorite from my Aunt was Holliday Pudding with Flora Dora Sauce.

Holiday Pudding

1 cup crumbled graham crumbs
1 cup marshmallows (cut fine)
1 cup dates
1/2 cup nuts (chopped)
1 cup whipping cream
a pinch of salt

Mix and put in refrigerator for a few hours. Serve with "Flora Dora Sauce".

Old Fashioned Flora Dora Sauce

2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 cup brandy, whiskey or sherry
1 cup whipped cream

Beat egg whites and add yolks, melted butter and sugar gradually. Add liquid. Fold in whipped cream last.
