Thank you for explaining what a sugar plum actually is !

While most of us grew up with "Twas the night before Christmas" ... most kids down here didn't know what a sugar plum was.

We always looked forward to a fresh batch of pecan pralines along with a plethora of other homemade candies.
I am 60years old, and every Christmas Eve, my Dad read "The Night Before Christmas" to us kids evn into my 20's (as I was the oldest).
My Son is now 24 years old and has moved out. I read that book to him all his life.
Last night, I was thinking that, after 60 years of living and much experience with that book, I'd NEVER eaten a Sugar Plum!
SO, I decided to make some!
Merry Christmas!

Suger plums pre date the Civil War so I would guess some or many Civil War soldiers would have known what they were.

Dance of the Suger Plum Fairy is a post Civil War thing from the 1890s. Today the Nutcracker is a common Christmas tradition for many.
