The link below is my transcription of a Richmond & Petersburg RR bill to the CSN, covering late February through August, 1862. Notice the major shipments in August -- 42 car loads of iron, 4 guns, 3 boilers, 2 engines, a propeller and other items. Who is a likely candidate for this material?

Also notice the shipment of 1200 shovels, 500 picks and 200 axes. Guesses on where these were headed?

Where was it going ? It may have been for CSS North Carolina.
 
The bill only shows use of the RR, not the direction of travel. With the R&P,everything was assumed to have traveled the full length of the road and the vast majority of it started in Richmond. I don't have the matching bills for the connecting roads, so I don't know where the goods were headed.

Fair enough, that was the nearest match in time and distance I could find.
