It is a CW musket. Colt produced 70000 of these. I would say it was plated after the war for GAR or parade use or even cadet use.

All of the 1861 Special Model muskets, as produced by Colt, Amoeskeag, and Lamson, Goodnow & Yale, were issued in the bright. Being plated does compromise the value a bit, but I believe a Nickel plated version would deserve a place in a GAR collection. However, if it is Chrome plated then it is most likely not a GAR musket.

Thank you Jobe. P

Strictly speaking this isn't a musket but a rifle-musket or simply a rifle. I would be happy to have it in my collection!
