Tell me more! 1860 Colt

This is the 1860 "been there, done that" Colt that started the interest in Civil War firearms. Far from the best example, it has a few interesting features/observations. I believe it's an 1861 and almost certainly saw some action. I haven't had it lettered or done any research. The cylinder is 14353 instead of 14358 like the rest of the revolver including the wedge. Based on the even patina, the cylinder has undoubtedly been married with the frame for a long time if not left the factory like that. The SN on the butt is not visible.

Is that sight brass or 1 dollar gold piece?
Great question. I don't know… I assumed brass, but I don't see any tarnish on it like I do on the brass trigger guard. Hard to see in photos, but it's fairly bright and shiny. Took some close up photos, not sure if that helps. Or if it at least answers the question as to it being original to the pistol.
