Found this recipe in book, "Old Timey Recipes". I had never thought of carrots and celery together. It sounds like one to try.

Carrot-Celery Casserole

3 cups diagonally sliced carrots
2 cups diagonally sliced celery
1/4 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon parsley

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine carrots and celery in greased casserole dish ( 1 1/2 quart). Mix in all ingredients. Bake covered for 45 minutes or until tender.

According to Phyllis Connor who complied this cookbook, these recipes from old families of the Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky and handed down for generations.

You are right in thinking that they would not go together but think about all the frozen pot pies that we have bought over the years and the mainstay veggies in them are carrots and celery.
