Burnside mechanic needed

I am very new here but not new to firearms. Would anyone out there know of a smith that is familiar with the Burnside carbine?

I am not that "mechanic", nor do I know one...but I do own a Burnside. It might help to describe the problem so that people can help you better.

Also, I suggest this thread be moved to the Small Arms and Ammunition Forum. That's where most people with knowledge about the Burnside, and possible knowledge about competent gunsmiths, can be found.

The Burnside in question is a none matching parts gun. The problem, the action will no close when chambering a round.

If close with no round in it I would check the ammo especially if you are using new ammo. I would mic an original and then your ammo.

It does sound like it could be an ammo problem. The first thing a gunsmith is going to ask you if it closed alright either empty or on those same casing before you reloaded. Did you resize?

You are using plastic or brass cartridges? Where did you buy the cartridges? I bought 50 rounds from S&S...4 of which were out of spec (S&S sent me replacements at no cost to me), though they looked fine. Out of spec rounds are a distinct possibility. Can you send pictures of the inside of your breech block?

It was discovered that flash holes needed to be deepened. I feel like a dummy.

Or the brass ammo needs to be shortened with a bit of sanding at the base...the repro brass often requires this adjustment. Again, not sure what casings you are using so its very difficult to assess. NSSA Forums have a lot of information on this topic....just type in a search.
