Managed to get an all original Burnside. Still trying to figure out this SRS deal since this is my first time getting a firearm this old. I know it was battle used and remains is really good shape. Has some initials on both sides but still trying to sort all that out. Any advice to research this would be greatly appreciated!

Nice looking old warhorse. The problem with finding out about the Burnside which is a 4th model is that there is another one with the same serial # as Burnside restarted the serial # back to zero. So even if it showed up you would not know which one it was. Below is a great article on the Burnside.

Gotcha thanks for the info. I ordered the Burnside Breechloading Carbines and Rifles book from Amazon so I plan to go through that accordingly.

Burnside 5th model 1864. Made at the very end of the war. Does it have inspectors approval impressed stamp on the ring side of the stock, just below the comb?

Yes it does. Tough to make out but the cartouche is there for sure. Also carvings on both sides of the stock. Trying my best to figure it all out.
