Identifying Civil War period bullets isn't always easy. There were many different types produced by federal and confederate facilities, purchased from private companies, and imported. There are minor variations, intentional or not, in both pressed and cast bullets. As a bullet collector, a.k.a. leadhead, I know that collectors with more knowledge than I have, occasionally disagree on identifications of bullets.
I would suggest that anyone who wants to collect Civil War bullets or identify a bullet should consider buying a copy of A Handbook of Civil War Bullets and Cartridges by Dean and Jim Thomas of Thomas Publications. This is the basic reference book and a must for anyone wanting to identify a Civil War bullet, I believe that the current updated edition is only $12.00. You can check the Thomas Publications website.
